Doctorand in Neurostiinte la Universitatea din Oxford, in cadrul Departamentului de Farmacologie, absolvent al Universitatii de Medicina si Farmacie "Carol Davila" din Bucuresti.

Activitate profesionala

In timpul facultatii, la Catedra de Fiziologie din cadrul UMF Carol Davila Bucuresti, Andrei Ilie a folosit inregistrari EEG la sobolani pentru a investiga modificarile activitatii electrice a creierului in conditiile lipsei de aport energetic (accident vascular cerebral sau stop cardiac). Studiile efectuate au sugerat ca oprirea activitatii electrice nu reflecta intodeauna o leziune neuronala ci initial poate reprezenta un mecanism "de aparare" al organismului ce ar putea duce la "economisirea" resurselor energetice si la cresterea sanselor de supravietuire a neuronilor.

Pe durata masteratului de la Universitatea Oxford, tanarul cercetator a participat la doua proiecte. Impreuna cu Dr. C. Stagg si Dr. H. Johansen-Berg a folosit RMN functional la subiecti normali pentru a invesitga mecanismele prin care stimularea transcraniana neinvaziva cu curent continuu poate influenta activitatea neuronala. Intelegerea acestor mecanisme poate duce la imbunatatirea recuperarii pacientilor cu diferite deficite neurologice la care echilibrul dintre excitatia si inhibitia este alterat. Ulterior, in laboratorul Dr. C. Akerman a folosit intregistrari electrofiziologice intracelulare pe felii de creier pentru a investiga factorii implicati in mentinerea inhibitiei neuronale.

In timpul primului an de doctorat, in acelasi labrator a folosit un model de crize epileptice pentru a investiga mecanismele ce contribuie la reducerea transmiterii sinaptice inhibitorii in epilepsie.
